Greetings

Atsushi Seike

Chairman President, Keio University

It is my great pleasure to announce the Keio Challenger International TennisTournament 2017.
With history of over a hundred years of tennis at our university, it is an honor for us to be able to host this tournament which provides the opportunity for promising young tennis players to showcase their talents. On behalf of Keio University, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to Seiko Holdings Corporation and Mizuno Corporation and all the sponsors. I would like to thank everyone who has helped in various ways to make this tournament possible.
It is my hope that this tournament, which is held in cooperation with other Challenger and Futures tournaments, will help foster up-and- coming tennis players in Asia, and make a significant contribution to promoting tennis both at the university and national level. This year, for the first time ever, a women’s division will be held in parallel to the men’s. I hope that all the time and energy the players have devoted to preparing for an opportunity like this will be reflected in their performance, and that their achievements will be the first step in paving their way towards success as international tennis players.
Last but not least, I hope that the exciting matches in this tournament will have a positive influence on tennis in Japan and help to promote the sport to a bigger demographic.

Hideyuki Tokuda

Vice Chairman President of Keio University Tennis Team

It is our great pleasure to host the “Keio Challenger International Tennis Tournament 2017” at Keio Hiyoshi Campus. This tournament is supported by various sponsors and is only possible thanks to their generous support. While many Japanese universities are still in the middle of reforming towards globalization, it is a privilege to be able to host and participate in such tournaments regularly. Students will be exposed to a vibrant international community with cultural differences and valuable life lessons. These experiences are precisely what are regularly said to be lessons that can only be taught outside of the classroom. We again would like to show appreciation to all members of the Keio Tennis Mitakai and the organization’s committee members in particular for their support.
Students and young players will have the opportunity to meet with world-class players over the course of this tournament. I hope that the students will gain not only breakthroughs in their tennis skills, but also the right attitude needed to be a top-tier player. I’m also hoping that the students will be able to take note of the self-management of an athlete as well. I strongly believe that Keio Challenger Tournament will provide a significant impact for the Japanese tennis community, as well as development for the student tennis community.

Takeshi Kurioka

Executive Director President of Keio University Tennis Team Alumni Mita Club

I am proud to announce that the “Keio Challenger International Tennis Tournament 2017″ will be held this year at the Mamushidani tennis court of hiyoshi campus. Thanks to all the supporters, I believe it will become an even better of a tournament than before. Since 2007, the 150th anniversary of the Keio University, we have hosted this tournament as a memorial event until 2009. Based on our experience through managing the tournament many times, we made it an even better, receiving the rating of “Excellent” by the ATP in our last 7 Challenger Tournaments. Through its 116 years of history our varsity tennis team has contributed greatly in the growth of tennis. Students, who took part in these tournaments, fought against skillful players and experienced the international level of tennis. I sincerely hope that through this tournament, the players will step up by battling against world-class athletes from across the globe. In addition, the current tennis team will be working with the ATP and this experience will surely lead to the improvement not only in the realm of collegiate tennis but also successful in the international community.
From this year, the ITF women’s tournament “Keio Challenger Women’s International Tennis Tournament 2017” will be hosted as well and I hope that it will bring a positive influence on women’s tennis in Japan.
Finally, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Seiko Holdings Corporation and Mizuno Corporation and all other sponsors for their efforts for the Keio Challenger International Tennis Tournament.

Toshiaki Sakai

Tournament Director Chief Coach of Keio University Tennis Team

I am sincerely grateful for all the sponsors and everyone who is involved in the management of this tournament for making it possible to host the “Keio Challenger International Tennis Tournament 2017″. This tournament is mainly produced by the students and we are willing to make it more attractive with the students’ infinite imagination and challengers’ spirit. This tournament reaches its 8th time being held and from this year, a women’s tournament, “Keio Challenger Women’s International Tennis Tournament 2017”, will be held in parallel to the men’s. Since 2007, we have hosted this tournament. At that time, Mr. Kei Nishikori had not ranked in even the top 100. However, Mr. Go Soeda, Mr. Tatsuma Ito, Mr. Yuichi Sugita, Mr. Taro Daniel and Mr. Yoshihito Nishioka have ranked in top100 through this tournament and there is no pleasure greater than to see past contestants lead such marvelous tennis careers as the tournament director. Additionally, Mr. Pierre-Hugues Herbert became the Wimbledon doubles champion and other players are playing successful at Grand Slam and Olympics through Keio Challenger International Tennis Tournament. I strongly feel that this tournament is not only the gateway to success for the next generation but also the road to the top of the world. I strongly believe that it provides a positive influence on tennis in Japan. Finally, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the sponsors for supporting the Keio Challenger International Tennis Tournament.
